Um Tae-goo claimed his technique for building a strong character was to go to the filming site multiple times to get a grasp of the ambience. Um Tae-goo claims to get strength from the tension of preparation that builds to a singular strength.

Um Tae-goo also told anecdotes of what it was like to film on set. Purportedly Um Tae-goo and Jeon Yeo-been made a strong impression on one another entirely through the strength of their acting talent with one another, warming up to each other over the course of the production.
